ChatGPT vs Gemini: which subscription is worthwhile in October 2026?
ChatGPT Go, Plus and Pro vs. Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra: prices in euros, models, limits and privacy in October 2026, and which one to choose for your work.
Reading time: 10 min

Better ChatGPT or Gemini for a fee? In October 2026 Google AI Pro (€21.99 per month) is suitable for those who work in Gmail, Documents and Drive and want 5 TB of space; ChatGPT Plus (23 €) to those who program, delegate tasks to AI or use Excel and Word.
To write and do research the distance is less: both have Deep Research and models that reason for a long time, so it decides the ecosystem in which you work. Prices and limits are those of the official pages for Italy on October 3, 2026 and change often: check the official page before subscribing.
In summary
- Gemini Advanced no longer exists: today it is called Google AI Pro, flanked by AI Plus and AI Ultra.
- In the middle range the price is almost even: ChatGPT Plus €23 per month, Google AI Pro €21.99, which also includes 5 TB of space (Google AI plans).
- Google AI Plus, 4.99 €, is not the rival of ChatGPT Plus but of ChatGPT Go, 8 €.
- Gemini works included Gmail and Documents; ChatGPT reaches Gmail and Drive with plugins and works in Excel, Word and PowerPoint with extensions.
- In personal plans chats can serve as Training Models: for customer data, business plans are needed.
Does Gemini Advanced still exist? What are plans called today
No. On May 20, 2025, Google the Gemini Advanced name has been announced and brought all its functions into Google AI Pro, the plan that used to be called Google One AI Premium. Those still looking for "Gemini Advanced vs GPT-4" compare two names from the past: today the Gemini app uses 3.6 Flash and 3.1 Pro, while ChatGPT uses GPT-5.6 Luna in the free plan and the GPT-6 models from Plus up (ChatGPT rates).
Gemini and ChatGPT, then, are not the same thing with two names: the first is the Google Assistant, the second that of OpenAI, with separate models and integrations. Personal plans are three per side; for a team there are ChatGPT Business and Enterprise and, on the Google side, Gemini in Workspace Plans or Gemini Enterprise.
How much do ChatGPT and Gemini cost in October 2026?
The six personal plans, by price range; limits and text per request of Google plans come from the guide on Gemini App Limits.
| Plan | Price per month | Models | Limits of use | Text by request | Cloud Space | In Which Apps |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus | 4,99 € | 3.6 Flash, 3.1 Pro | double the free | 128,000 tokens | 400 GB | Gmail, Vids and other apps |
| ChatGPT Go | 8 € | GPT-5.6 Luna, GPT-5 Thinking Mini | higher than the Free, with possible advertising | about 320 pages | not included | Office Extensions and Limited Google Sheets |
| Google AI Pro | 21,99 € | 3.1 Pro with extended access | 4 times the free | about 1,500 pages (1 million tokens) | 5 TB | Gmail, Documents, Vids; Basic Antigravity |
| ChatGPT Plus | 23 € | Limited GPT-6.1 Sol and GPT-6 Astra, extended GPT-5.6 Sol | extended | about 320 pages | not included | ChatGPT Work, Codex, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets |
| Google AI Ultra | 99.99 € or 219.99 € | 3.1 Pro with Deep Think | 5 or 20 times those of Pro | about 1,500 pages | from 20 TB | Higher limits in Google apps |
| ChatGPT Pro | from 103 € | Extended GPT-6 Astra, Pro reasoning | three levels of your choice | about 680 pages | not included | Dot, longer Work and Codex sessions |
Without paying, ChatGPT Free gives unlimited text chat with GPT-5.6 Luna and Gemini free offers 3.6 Flash, variable access to 3.1 Pro and 15 GB of space; the free plans in comparison are in best AI for free. What Plus adds to the free version is in Free ChatGPT vs Plus; the comparison with Claude, Copilot and Perplexity is in the guide to Best Artificial Intelligence.
Gemini Plus or ChatGPT Plus: Which is really convenient?
The question arises from a misconception about names. "Gemini Plus" is Google AI Plus, Google's entry plan at €4.99 per month; ChatGPT Plus is the middle end of OpenAI, at 23 €. The au pair comparison is AI Plus against ChatGPT Go, and ChatGPT Plus against Google AI Pro (Google AI plans, ChatGPT rates).
Between the two economic plans, Google AI Plus puts more things in the package: double limits than free, video generation, 400 GB of space on Drive, Gmail and Photos, and Gemini inside the mail. ChatGPT Go costs more and does not unlock GPT-6 models: it gives more messages, uploads and images, longer memory and can show advertisements. Go is convenient for those who use ChatGPT for free every day and clash with the limits; AI Plus for those who have the full box and want the assistant inside Gmail.
Google AI Pro or ChatGPT Plus: which one is worth the same price?
Between €21.99 and €23 per month the price difference is minimal (Google AI plans, ChatGPT rates). Those looking for "Gemini Pro vs ChatGPT Plus" are faced with three concrete differences.
- How much text he reads. With Google AI Pro, Gemini works on a million tokens, or about 1,500 pages or 30,000 lines of code in a request (Gemini App Limits). ChatGPT Plus, with reasoning patterns, comes to about 320 pages.
- How much work you can delegate. ChatGPT Plus includes ChatGPT Work, the mode in which you entrust a task with a result to review: an analysis, a presentation, an update that is repeated every Monday, using files and plugins. Gemini responds with Deep Research and scheduled actions, and gives the best in Google apps.
- What's beyond chat. Google AI Pro adds 5 TB of space, YouTube Premium Lite and the basic limits for the Antigravity programming agent. ChatGPT Plus adds Codex with expanded usage and extensions for Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets.
What about Google AI Ultra versus ChatGPT Pro?
Around 100 € per month you pay the amount, not a different assistant. Google AI Ultra adds Deep Think, much higher limits and precedence on some new models: Gemini 4 Argon will arrive first to API paying customers and Ultra subscribers (Google Ad). ChatGPT Pro adds extended GPT-6 Astra and Dot, the always-available agent. In an SME, they are needed only by those who code or analyse documents all day.
Better Gemini or ChatGPT for your work?
Who lives in Gmail, Documents and Drive
Here Gemini takes advantage, because he works included the apps. With a Google AI plan, in Gmail he writes and rewrites emails with "Help me write" and summarizes long threads, even in Italian; the overview above the search results, suggested answers and Gmail Live for now only work in English (Gemini functions in Gmail). Practical uses are in Gemini for Gmail and in Gemini for Google Workspace.
ChatGPT comes to us from outside: with the Gmail and Google Drive plugins read email, Documents and Sheets from chat or ChatGPT Work. It works, but it's an extra step compared to an assistant already open next to the message.
Who Programmes
ChatGPT Plus includes Codex with expanded usage; Google AI Pro gives basic limits for the Antigravity agent. For those who write code every day, between the two we start from Codex: it is already in the plan and works directly on the project. How it is used with the GPT-6 models is in Codex with GPT-6 Sol and Luna; before paying also compare Claude Code in the guide to Best AI for Programming.
Who writes
For emails, offers and articles quality depends more on instructions and review than subscription. Change the outline: ChatGPT remembers conversations and has projects, where you keep instructions and files together for each customer; Gemini, with Google AI Pro, writes directly in Documents. If you write long texts in which tone matters, try Claude as well: comparisons are in ChatGPT vs Claude and Claude vs Gemini.
Who does research
Deep Research is in both: in ChatGPT Plus with extended access, in Gemini already in the free plan, with limits that go up with the subscription. The advantage of Gemini lies in the large documents: with Google AI Pro a budget, a specifications or a file of up to about 1,500 pages enters a single request, almost five times as much as ChatGPT Plus reads. For quick questions with the sources next door there is the guide to Best AI to do research.
Who works in Word and Excel
If the office runs on Microsoft 365, ChatGPT Plus has extensions for Excel, Word and PowerPoint, while Google AI plans point to Google apps. Often, however, it is convenient the assistant already included in Microsoft apps: the comparison is in ChatGPT vs Copilot.
Choose Google AI Pro if
- mail, documents and work files stay in Gmail and Drive
- work on PDFs, minutes or chapters of hundreds of pages
- You need cloud space and you'd still pay for it
Choose ChatGPT Plus if
- programs and want Codex included in the plan
- want to entrust whole tasks to ChatGPT Work, with files and plugins
- work in Excel, Word and PowerPoint or with tools other than Google
ChatGPT and Gemini use your data to train models?
In personal plans they can do it, and the choice is yours. For OpenAI the contents of all individual plans, from Free to Pro, serve to train models until you disable the option (ChatGPT rates): turn it off under Settings, Data Controls, “Improve the model for everyone”; this also applies to Codex. Temporary chats remain outside training and are retained for up to 30 days for safety; a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, however, can bring the entire conversation into training (ChatGPT data controls).
In Gemini, he decides the "Save the Activity" setting. If it is active, chats and files also serve to train generative AI models, with the help of human reviewers: examined conversations are disconnected from the account and stored for up to 3 years. If you turn it off, future chats are not for training, except for feedback you submit, and remain in the account for 72 hours (Gemini apps privacy).
There is a compromise that few people notice: with "Save Task" turned off, the Gemini app can't use Gmail, Drive, and the other connected Workspace apps (Gemini Privacy Center). Anyone who wants an assistant who searches in personal mail must accept that the task is saved.
- In ChatGPT Business and Enterprise content is not used for training by default (OpenAI).
- With Google Workspace, Gemini doesn't have human reviewers read prompts and documents and use them to train models out of your domain without permission (Google).
- In ChatGPT's personal plans, data residency in Europe is not provided for.
- For the personal data of customers and employees, we also need a contract on the treatment with the supplier: the framework is in AI and corporate privacy.
Two cases: a study on Google Workspace and an agency that develops
Get a four-person job counselor study who lives in Gmail and Drive with the corporate domain. Google AI Pro cannot be activated on the studio accounts, because it requires a personal account: the road is a Workspace plan with Gemini included: in Gmail it writes the answers to customers and summarizes the threads in Italian, and the study data is not used to train the models. ChatGPT, here, would be a second tool to learn without a clear advantage.
Then think of a three-person web agency that develops sites and management software and every month sends customers a report. Here ChatGPT Plus makes more: Codex on code, ChatGPT Work to prepare reports from shared files, the Google Drive plugin to read customer sheets. The price is almost the same as Google AI Pro, but the time saved lies in the code and reports, not the mail.
Where is wrong in the comparison between Gemini and ChatGPT
- Compare names instead of bands. Google AI Plus and ChatGPT Plus are called the same but come in different price ranges.
- Turn on Google AI Pro for the company. It's a plan for personal accounts: a team on Workspace uses Gemini with the business plan.
- Judging by the free plan. ChatGPT Free uses GPT-5.6 Luna, Gemini free has variable access to 3.1 Pro: free trials say little about paid models.
- Load customer data with active training. In personal plans it needs to be turned off before it starts, and customer data is better in business plans.
- Pay two subscriptions that do the same thing. If Gemini or Copilot are already in the office suite, the second subscription only makes sense for a different job, like programming.
How to try them in a week before subscribing
- Choose three real tasks of your week: a response to a customer, a long document to summarize, a sheet to analyze.
- Remove names and amounts from the files and turn off training in the settings before you start.
- Give the same files and instructions to Gemini and ChatGPT, in the free version or in the first month of subscription.
- Count the correction time, not the first impression: the assistant who makes you rewrite less wins.
- Keep only one subscription and, after a month, repeat the test: if it didn't save you time, cancel.
Which subscription to choose in October 2026
If the work goes from Gmail and Drive, Google AI Pro; if it goes from code, Excel sheets and tasks to delegate, ChatGPT Plus; to spend little, Google AI Plus beats ChatGPT Go if you already use Google services. The differences between models, beyond the plans, are in ChatGPT vs Gemini: practical differences, the prices of APIs in Claude, GPT and Gemini in comparison.
However, when the work to lighten is always the same, such as sorting customer requests or copying data from emails to management software, no personal subscription does it on its own: you need a automation connected to your systems, and Giallo Studio designs it starting from how your office works today.

FAQ
Which paid option is better: Gemini or ChatGPT?
It depends on where you work. Google AI Pro suits people who spend their day in Gmail, Docs and Drive, read very long files and also want cloud storage; ChatGPT Plus suits people who code with Codex, delegate entire tasks to ChatGPT Work, or work in Excel and Word. They cost almost the same, so the ecosystem decides rather than the price.
Are Gemini and ChatGPT the same thing?
No. ChatGPT is the OpenAI assistant and uses GPT models, such as GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol; Gemini is the Google assistant and uses Gemini models, such as 3.1 Pro and 3.6 Flash. They do similar things, namely write, summarize, search and create images, but with different subscriptions, limits and integrations.
Does Gemini Advanced still exist?
No. On May 20, 2025, Google announced that it was retiring the Gemini Advanced name and moved its features into the Google AI Pro subscription, previously called Google One AI Premium. Google now has three personal plans: Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra.
Which is better: Google AI Plus or ChatGPT Plus?
They are not in the same tier, despite their similar names. In October 2026, Google AI Plus costs €4.99 per month and should be compared with ChatGPT Go, which costs €8; the competitor to ChatGPT Plus at €23 is Google AI Pro at €21.99. People searching for Gemini Plus usually mean Google AI Plus.
Which is better: ChatGPT Go or Google AI Plus?
Google AI Plus if you already use Gmail and Drive: it costs less and adds 400 GB of storage, video generation and Gemini in Gmail. ChatGPT Go if you mainly need more ChatGPT: more messages, uploads and images than the free plan, plus longer memory, but without the GPT-6 models and with possible advertising.
How much do ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro cost?
On the official pages for Italy, in October 2026, ChatGPT Plus costs €23 per month and Google AI Pro costs €21.99 per month. Google includes 5 TB of storage across Drive, Gmail and Photos in the price; OpenAI includes no cloud storage. Prices change frequently: check the official page before subscribing.
Do ChatGPT and Gemini use my conversations for training?
They can on personal plans. In ChatGPT, training remains enabled until you switch off ‘Improve the model for everyone’ in Data Controls; in Gemini, it depends on ‘Save activity’, which is also needed to connect Gmail and Drive to the app. Customer data requires business plans, where content is not used for training by default.
