The context

Simo Spurghi provides drain clearance and sewer network management services. Its work is practical and everyday: unblocking pipes and drains, emptying cesspits and septic tanks, cleaning gullies and inspection chambers, inspecting pipes with cameras to locate problems, and scheduled maintenance for apartment buildings, businesses and private households. This is a sector where the job is not to sell an idea or an abstract image: it is to resolve a fault that, as soon as it occurs, brings a home, restaurant, office or entire building to a halt.

When we began working with Simo Spurghi, the starting point was clear and honest: a business with solid field expertise and equipment, but without a digital tool that represented it just as well. In this line of work, the website is more than a prestigious showcase: it is the channel through which someone facing a problem, often in a hurry and on a smartphone, decides whether to call that company or the next one on the list. Our task was to build exactly that: a fast, credible, straightforward point of contact.

As an agency, we first try to understand who arrives on the website and their state of mind. Someone searching for drain clearance is rarely “taking their time to compare”: they have a blocked drain, a bad smell, flooding or an overflowing chamber. They scan rather than read. They try one or two providers rather than compare ten options. Every decision about structure, copy and speed came from that understanding, rather than a generic template applied at random.

The Challenge

The real challenge of the purge industry is all in the combination of local demand and urgency. The question is local because no one is looking for "a purge company" in the abstract: look for those who can intervene in their area, today, maybe within a few hours. A customer thirty kilometers away, however good, often does not need: it counts to be present and visible where the need arises. This completely changes priorities over a site that targets a national or generic audience.

Urgency adds a second layer of difficulty. Someone with a sewer fault is not following the relaxed purchasing journey described in marketing textbooks. They are dealing with a small domestic or business emergency. A restaurant with blocked drains is losing service and money in real time. An apartment building with an overflowing tank faces an immediate hygiene problem. In those circumstances, patience is close to zero: if the site is slow, confusing or fails to explain immediately how to call, the user leaves for the next search result.

Then there was the challenge of trust. Letting a technician into your home or authorising work means trusting someone you do not know. The website needed to communicate professionalism and expertise without exaggeration, unrealistic promises or invented figures. In our way of working, this is a principle rather than an indulgence: we prefer a credible, verifiable message to an advert full of superlatives that, in a sector built on word of mouth and reviews, falls apart after the first job goes wrong.

Finally, the technical challenge: most of these searches happen on mobile, often on a poor connection, perhaps from the courtyard or basement where the fault appeared. Every choice therefore had to withstand the test of a phone in someone’s hand, their thumb, and “I have thirty seconds and want this fixed”. A beautiful but heavy website loses clients here.

Contact-oriented site architecture

We designed the site from the end: the action we want to achieve. In this case it is double and clear: call or ask for a quote. Everything else is at the service of these two gestures. We didn't build a site to "read", but a site to use. The difference is substantial and can be seen on every page.

The phone is central. The number is immediately visible at the top and remains within thumb’s reach while scrolling. On mobile, it is a click-to-call button: one tap starts the call, without copying digits or intermediate steps. In an urgent situation, this detail is not cosmetic: it is the difference between an enquiry and someone leaving. Every extra step between the need and the call is a point where users may reconsider or become distracted.

We gave quote requests equal prominence for people without an immediate emergency who want to plan work or compare costs. The short form asks only what is needed, where and how to make contact. Every extra field is another reason to abandon the form, so it remains concise and direct, consistent with our practical approach.

The overall structure is clear and hierarchical. Within seconds of arriving, people understand who Simo Spurghi is, what it does and how to make contact. The services follow, explained simply. Navigation is designed so no route leads to a dead end: from anywhere on the website, making contact is always one tap away. No menu mazes, no pages that exist merely to fill space.

We paid particular attention to loading speed. In drain-clearance services, it is more than a technical concern for specialists: it directly affects business. A person facing an emergency who waits too long at a blank page simply leaves. We therefore kept the website lightweight, with optimised images and no unnecessary elements slowing it down, so it opens quickly even on poor mobile networks. A fast-loading site converts more in this context. It is that simple, and so often overlooked.

Featured services

The services are the website’s information hub, and much of its credibility depends on them. Visitors want to recognise their problem immediately in one of the listed services. If a drain is blocked, they need to find “drain unblocking”. If a septic tank needs emptying, they need to see it stated explicitly. We therefore made the services prominent, clear and readable, using the client’s language rather than the installer’s technical jargon.

Each service is described through the problem it solves, rather than its internal workings. A person facing a problem is not interested in a vacuum tanker’s specifications: they want to know someone can unblock that pipe, empty that tank, inspect that sewer and tell them where the fault is. Translating the technical problem into a human need was one of the areas we worked on most, because it triggers recognition and trust.

Making the services prominent also helps reassure visitors. An organised list of drain unblocking, tank emptying, chamber and gully cleaning, camera inspections and scheduled maintenance communicates a precise message: this is a company that genuinely does the work and can handle the full range of situations. That is far more effective than ten self-congratulatory adjectives. Clearly listed facts are worth more than promises.

We also considered the different clients within this sector: a homeowner with a blocked drain, an apartment building with recurring problems in shared areas, and a business that cannot afford downtime. The service presentation addresses those different needs so each person feels guided, without having to interpret or guess whether the service is “for me too”.

Local SEO

Local SEO is the main driver of demand in drain-clearance services, rather than an optional chapter. The vast majority of enquiries begin with a search by someone facing a problem here and now, looking for someone nearby who can solve it. If the website does not appear when someone searches for the service in their area, everything else — design, copy and speed — is useless, because nobody reaches it.

We therefore designed the website to be understandable and relevant to local searches. This means a clear structure describing the services offered and area covered, text about real problems people actually search for — blocked drains, tank emptying, drain unblocking and camera inspections — rather than vague formulas, and an organised technical foundation helping search engines understand what the company does and where it operates. No tricks, no keyword stuffing: honest, well-organised content.

We treat local SEO, reviews and consistent business information together. A drain-clearance business depends on its local reputation: reviews are often the first sign of trust a potential customer considers, before even opening the site. We therefore approached the online presence as a coherent system — website, contacts and service information — where each part reinforces the others and communicates the same reliability.

We want to be transparent here too: local SEO is a work that pays off over time and depends on factors that go beyond the site, such as competition on the territory and consistency in collecting real reviews. We do not promise guaranteed prime positions or inflated numbers. We have built solid and honest foundations, which is the correct way to be found in a lasting way instead of chasing shortcuts that last little.

Urgency management

If we were to sum up in a sentence the philosophy of this project, it would be: those who seek want to solve immediately. The whole site is built around this simple truth. In the purging sector there is no "I think about it and I'll let you know". There is failure, annoyance, sometimes small panic, and an immediate urge to find someone to come and fix it.

That is why we minimised the distance between someone realising they have a problem and contacting the company. A phone number always visible, mobile click-to-call, services recognisable at a glance, a concise quote form and lightweight pages that open instantly. Every choice is designed to shorten that journey, rather than lengthen it with content nobody would read during an emergency.

We have also resisted the temptation, typical of many sites, to fill the homepage with texts, stories and sections that ward off action. In a context of urgency, every extra element that does not serve contact is an obstacle. Generosity, here, is about taking away: giving the user exactly what they need to act, and nothing else. It is a choice of respect towards those in a hurry and a concrete problem to be solved.

This attention to urgency also distinguishes a website built by people who understand the sector from a generic template. A template puts a slogan and an atmospheric image on the homepage; we put a phone number and the problems the business solves. It is a difference that is small to describe but enormous in its effects, because it speaks the language of someone looking for help.

The result

The result is a website that does exactly its job: be found by people seeking local assistance and guide them, with as little friction as possible, to call or request a quote. It does not aim to impress with special effects: it is a clear, direct working tool, consistent with the practical nature of the company it represents.

Simo Spurghi today has a digital point of contact that lives up to its expertise in the field. The contact-oriented structure, loading speed, clarity of services, click-to-call, and foundation of local SEO work together toward one goal: to turn a search done in a time of need into a real call. This is the true value, much more than any abstract metric.

We are clear about the limits and promises. A well-made website is necessary but not sufficient: it delivers the best results alongside excellent field service, genuine reviews and a local presence maintained over time. We built the part a responsible agency can provide, without inflated claims or invented figures, because that is how lasting relationships are built.

This project reflects how Giallo Studio approaches websites for service businesses: truly understand the end customer and the context of their search, remove anything unnecessary, prioritise the action that matters, and attend to the technical details — speed, clarity, immediate contact and local SEO — that make the real-world difference between a website that exists and one that brings customers. For a drain-clearance company, where every minute and click counts, that difference is everything.
